Easter 2008

360This last Sunday, I ran into Darren at the Easter service, happy belated Easter by the way, and couldn’t help but reminisce about our group’s beginnings. Wow, has it been 4 years already? Have we been together for that long? Some of my earliest recollections about the Ohana was a pictionary ice breaker that we did together, I swear that drawing that looked like Italy was suppose to be a fish, while eating delectable Costco sandwiches. Funny what you remember. What are some of your fond reminiscence about your small group experiences?

Love Your Neighbor March

339Last weekend, the day started off like any other day here in Hawaii. Nice and warm, with maybe a hint that it will get even warmer. Nancy brought her own rake and scooper. How classic is that?

As with all the other times, I had a chance to meet those that I haven’t meet before. There was Jim, who had an interesting interpretation of the garden in Genesis. I finally meet Mark and Linda, who came previously, but I never had a chance to introduce myself.

346We did the usual, picked up trash and paint over graffiti. I am beginning to notice which business cares that the front area of their establishment is clean, and which business don’t seem to put this as a priority.

Yea, everything was going as usual, but as we all know, where the “usual” is occurring, God just seems to throw something different. First, there was an Easter egg hunt. I’m not sure who sponsored it, but I’m sure that most of the kids in the park, along with their parents, lived in the approximate vicinity of Kaimuki district. One little boy was crying because of a little cut on his finger from the rock wall. Here we had the opportunity to do a quick neosporin and band aid help for the little tyke and, I’m sure, relief from the crying for his mother. I wonder what she thought of the enthusiasm of our Kaimuki Christian Church youth, who helped with the application of the neosporin?

Second, I had the wonderful opportunity to meet and invite Katerine, a long time residence of Kaimuki district, to lunch. She respectfully declined the lunch, but what an interesting woman. We discussed Berkley, how fun it was there; her opinion about the community, very elderly and reserved; and software taxes, she doesn’t much care for them. I hope she swings by one Sunday just to say hi.

355Then there is lunch. Lily and Bea, I’m deeply grateful for the food that you both cook. As usual, it is awesome. What a great way to end a not so typical and never boring Love Your Neighbor ministry.
